چکیده

Surface defects of a new type have been found on reconstructed Au(001) surfaces following 600-eV Ar+ ion bombardment. They appear as shallow areas 0.6 Å deep, one short period of the reconstruction (14.4 Å) wide. It is proposed that these defects are dislocation dipoles in the hexagonal reconstructed layer, originated by the collapse of surface vacancies. After higher ion doses, large patches of unreconstructed areas surrounded by perpendicular reconstruction domains, also caused by surface-vacancies-induced modifications of the reconstructed layer, are present. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. Surface X-ray speckles: coherent surface diffraction from Au(001).

We present coherent speckled x-ray diffraction patterns obtained from a monolayer of surface atoms. We measured both the specular anti-Bragg reflection and the off-specular hexagonal reconstruction peak for the Au(001) surface reconstruction. We observed fluctuations of the speckle patterns even when the integrated intensity appears static. By autocorrelating the speckle patterns, we were able ...

Probing the electronic transport on the reconstructed Au/Ge(001) surface

By using scanning tunnelling potentiometry we characterized the lateral variation of the electrochemical potential µec on the gold-induced Ge(001)-c(8 × 2)-Au surface reconstruction while a lateral current flows through the sample. On the reconstruction and across domain boundaries we find that µec shows a constant gradient as a function of the position between the contacts. In addition, nanosc...

Submental Artery Island Flap in Reconstruction of Harde Plate after wide Surgical Resection of Veruccous Carcinoma. Two case reports

Introduction: Reconstruction of intraoral soft tissue defects is important in restoring function and esthetic. In large defects, there will be demand for regional pedicle flaps or free flaps. Hard palate separates nasal and oral cavities. Due to the small surface area between flap and remaining palate after surgical resections, optimal blood supply of the flaps for hard palate reconstructions ...

ATOMISTIC EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATION STUDIES OF THE INCIPIENT PLASTIC DEFORMATION MECHANISMS AROUND NANOINDENTATIONS IN Au(001)

The nature and configuration of the dislocations generated during the incipient stages of plasticity in nanoindentations are still to a large extent unclear. In previous studies we have recognised and characterised by STM a number of novel surface defects in the surface of fcc metals generated by nanoindentation. We have analysed [1] the generation and kinetics of two types of dislocation confi...

Reconstruction of Lateral Mandibular Defects with Soft Tissue Loss: The Role of the Submental Flap

Introduction: Mandibular continuity defects after pathologic resections or traumatic events are difficult cases for reconstruction. Defects involving both hard and soft tissue loss are more challenging, because of problems in soft tissue coverage. The role of the submental flap in this regard is presented.   Materials and Methods: In a retrospective study from the archived files of Ghaem Hospi...
